To be fair and balanced, we need to examine the pro- immigration and open borders people.  Have fun.  Strange, but this one did not turn out the way I wanted it to.  I was going to pull up some militant pro-illegal people, but realized most of the trouble was being made from anti-immigration groups of the extreme right.  Who would have guessed.  The bottom line here – yes there are agitators promoting a separate state in the Southwest.  These can be chalked up as wide-eyed college students being led on by their wacko professors. It’s about the only place you find Aztlan or Reconquista, aside from anti-immigration, anti-Hispanic web sites.  Never doubt this is all about anti Hispanic bigotry.  When I started looking at things, I assumed I would find some extreme community activists.  They are there, but pale in comparison to the extreme hatred – let’s call it what it is – of the Hispanic Culture by anti-immigration groups with strings of racism being pulled by the KKK and a few other nasty associates.

What is the Quest for Aztlan?  This is from the Aztlan web site.  It doesn’t look very militant to me.  Looks more cultural.  Thing is, from what I’ve learned about the Mexican culture, it’s a worth-while culture that can do nothing but enrich our society and make us a better nation.  (Sorry TT.)

Xenophobic Vigilante Groups hold January 7th Actions

(San Farncico IMC) Day workers across the country plan a campaign of peacefully responding to coordinated vigilante actions organized by Connecticut Citizens for Immigration Control and local cells of the so-called “Minutemen.” Groups like the Minutemen and the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) have been focusing their attention on day laborer centers. The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) reports that the recent wave of attacks is nothing new to the day worker community. Throughout 2005, similar attempts to incite violence and generate chaos against day laborers were experienced in Phoenix, AZ., Herndon, VA, and elsewhere. In Redondo Beach, CA, Joseph Turner, founder of Save Our State, encouraged members of his group to bring baseball bats, noting “if we’re lucky, we’re gonna need them.”

The NDLON says that the actions of vigilantes are motivated by, and an inspiration to, hate groups and white supremacists concerned about the changing demographics in our communities. At a recent event in Herndon, VA, a man “patrolled” a day labor corner with a t-shirt that said White Pride. “Under no circumstances can vigilante action be accepted in a civil society,” said Salvador Reza, Executive Director of Tonatierra in Phoenix, AZ. “It is our obligation to shine light on their dark motives” he added.

The much maligned and feared Aztlan bunch, come to find out, they are terrified of the minutemen!  “Should the general American populace allow a few “nut cases” to threaten their peace and well being in their own homeland? Must we allow the likes of Glenn Spencer, Chris Simcox and Jim Gilchrist to threaten the lives of our families? The NDLON says that wherever militia and paramilitary actions target day laborers, the workers and their supporters will counter them with peaceful, non-violent resistance. The network of day laborers and their supporters says that it will monitor, photograph and film the Minutemen and similar groups in order to document and prevent violence and hate crimes; defend the areas where day laborers congregate to solicit employment in order to feed themselves and their loved ones; and work to spread a message that honors the migrants and denounces the vigilantes’ hatred and xenophobia. There’s no point in hiding it any longer. The more observant members of society have already figured out that there’s a secret Latino movement under way to evict every last Anglo-European American from the Southwest and reclaim the land that Mexico lost in the Mexican-American War of the mid-1800s. (Or sold, technically, since Mexico agreed to give up the land for $15 million in cash. Whatever.) We might have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for the brave anti-immigration soldiers and commentators such as Michelle Malkin pointing out the brown peril. By we, I mean every single Mexican-American in the Southwest United States, even the half-breeds like me, regardless of how deep their family’s American roots may go. The plan is called La Reconquista, and what it means is that we are dead set on turning California and its neighboring states into Mexifornia. Or is it Aztlan? I can’t remember; I’m going to have to consult the memo sent out by Mayor Reconquista, Antonio Vivalaraza. I do remember, however, that the goal is to turn Wilshire Boulevard into Avenida Revolucion norte, right down to the sad painted donkeys and the drunken sailors. Football will be outlawed, and futbol will be installed in all the stadiums of this new Mexican state. Because we want this to be just like our beloved Mexico, the current political system of special-interest pandering will be replaced by one of complete corruption and institutionalized bribery. Plus, all the toilet seats in public restrooms will be removed — but that’s just for fun.Why would we do this? That’s a valid question, particularly for those of us who have never lived in Mexico — or who have fled Mexico — and like our stable economic system the way it is, thank you very much.

The answer, of course, is that we aren’t.

It’s the most ridiculous, specious and, frankly, dismaying aspect of the national immigration debate. There are many far more legitimate issues to genuinely worry about with millions of illegal immigrants living and working in the United States virtually unknown and without sharing the same societal responsibilities as legal citizens….What’s even more disturbing is the widespread use of war rhetoric by anti-immigration groups. To get a sense of the new and disturbing language in the immigration debate, check out the chat rooms of the California-based www.saveourstate.org to see the postings from people such as “street fighting man” and “contraztlan warrior” who share strategies, stories and bits of wisdom such as: “Let us speek AMERICAN again.” The site also offers evidence of the invasion, which are mainly pictures of billboards in Spanish and brown-skinned day laborers standing along the side of a street. …Or visit my favorite local anti-immigration blog, immigrationwatchdog.org, which refers to immigrants as “invaders,” or americanborderpatrol.com, motto: “Bringing you to the front line.”……Anti-immigrants aren’t the only ones employing the war talk. There’s the crackpot who advocates the Mexican Movement online, which really is a re-reconquista plan, since it denounces all European occupiers in both Mexico and the U.S. This dude hardly represents the average Mexican immigrant, legal or not.

It’s a brilliant strategy, though. If you dehumanize the people you don’t like by calling them alien invaders rather than people, it’s a lot easier to get rid of them. This is how it starts, by sowing the seeds of “otherness” on both sides of the debate, by dividing ourselves up into “us” and “them.” I don’t even know which one I would be. There is no serious reconquista plan, but maybe there should be. It’s time for rational Americans to reconquer the immigration debate before the soldier wannabes stirring up the brown peril pot start believing their own rhetoric“

Google “Reconquista“  Shown here are the first 4 pages of the search.  You may want to note the anti-immigration notations to the term I’ve highlighted in Green.  The ones highlighted in purple are either educational or basic information.  I’ve left the ones promoted by Hispanic groups in blue.  I found only one extreme political piece (it being a college student hystaria group).  There are several explanatory things from Axtlan and Ornicus, and few educational pieces and THE REST – 90% of the political rhetoric is on the right.
